Dell showcases its Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ laptops

  • Like several other Windows 11 OEMs, Dell has revealed five new laptops that have Copilot+ support.
  • The new hardware is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite and Plus CPUs.
  • All laptops boast improved battery life to support the new AI-focused Copilot+ capabilities.

When it comes to personal computing, Microsoft has officially entered the Copilot+ era as its new AI-focused standard for new hardware that can support generative AI functions and applications. This has led to Surface, ASUS, Lenovo and HP unveiling new hardware with Copilot+, and now it’s Dell’s turn.

For that matter, Dell has five new laptops built with Copilot+ in mind, and like the other OEMs mentioned above, it’s using Qualcomm’s latest silicon to do so. Namely, Snapdragon X Elite and Plus CPUs, together with integrated Oryon GPU and NPU (Neural Processing Unit).

“A whole new class of devices transforms your AI PC experience with outstanding performance and battery life, greater productivity and strong security. Our five new laptops, XPS 13, Inspiron 14 Plus, Inspiron 14, Latitude 7455 and Latitude 5455offer a range of consumer and commercial options that deliver exceptional speed and artificial intelligence performance to enhance computing and simplify tasks,” Dell noted in an announcement shared with Hypertext.

In terms of performance, although each laptop listed here offers different levels, as required of Copilot+ devices, they support up to 45 trillion operations per second (TOPS) from the NPU. Added to this are “instant results when searching your own content using your device” via the newly discovered Copilot+ recall feature.

Taking a closer look at the devices, starting with the 2024 XPS 13 (pictured in the header above), Dell notes that it’s its thinnest and lightest XPS to date. Added to this is up to 27 hours of battery life, according to the manufacturer.

While local configurations are yet to be confirmed, the 2024 XPS 13 features a 13.4″ FullHD+ (1920×1200) display with InfinityEdge ultra-thin bezels and a 30 to 120Hz refresh rate range. There is also up to 16 GB LPDDR5X RAM, up to 512 GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD, and the Qualcomm CPU is Snapdragon X Elite X1E-80-100 (12 cores up to 3.4 GHz, Dual-Core Boost up to 4 GHz) .

Moving on to Inspiron laptops, like the XPS unit, they are available for pre-order in the US, with local availability and pricing yet to be confirmed.

What is known is that both have a Snapdragon X Plus CPU, with the Inspiron 14 Plus having a QHD+ display with 400 nits of brightness and up to 15 hours of battery life. The Inspiron 14 boasts up to 16 hours of battery life and a lightweight body of 1.44 kg.

Rounding out the new lineup are Latitude laptops, with the Latitude 7455 and 5455 powered by Snapdragon X Elite and Plus processors.

“The Latitude 7455 is a premium AI notebook with up to 21 hours of battery life equipped with a stunning 14-inch QHD+ touchscreen display, quad speakers with AI noise reduction, Qualcomm FastConnect Wi-Fi 7 and optional 5G for better connectivity and collaboration,” Dell describes the first.

“The Latitude 5455 performs in the flagship AI business laptop option with a 16:10 FHD+ display and dual speakers. Multiple layers of hardware and firmware security features also protect your Latitudes, from rigorous controls in the supply chain to defense-in-depth at the BIOS level,” it added of the lower-spec option.

At the time of writing, Dell South Africa has not officially confirmed the pricing or availability of these new Copilot+ laptops, but they are expected later in the year, along with some new peripherals.
